Main Message Board / Re: ? Sudden overheating?
August 14, 2024, 06:23:34 PM
Hi Craig,
Although I have an extensive background in electronics, I was unable to determine the exact cause of the problem with the guage. Suffice to say, the symptoms were consistent with an intermittent short circuit to ground of the sensor coil winding within the guage.
The problem was resolved by simply replacing the guage.

Hi Craig,
I'm most interested in how you confirmed it was the guage, as I am currently dealing with exactly the same symptoms as you.

Main Message Board / Who can supply a stern pulpit?
August 02, 2019, 07:10:37 PM
Hi all,
I have a 2005 C34 MKII and need a replacement port side stern pulpit.

Being in Australia, locating a supplier in the US has been a little confusing.
I've had vastly different quotes (differing by a factor of 2 to 3 times - excluding freight) from CatalinaDirect and CatalinaYachts.
Perhaps someone can shed some light on reasons for the difference, or maybe even suggest another supplier?

best regards,
Allan

Hi Dale,
Thanks so much for your help - you've confirmed for me the bulkhead should be fixed.
So it's academic who or why mine was modified to floating.
I will now revert it to fixed.

Hi Jim,
Re the trim beading, it's there on my boat but I will verify it is doing what it should and replace it if necessary.

Thanks all for your help guys - I'm on the right track now  :clap

Hi Allen,
I was not able get on the boat last night. Weather here was yuck. I plan getting on it Thursday night and will report back Friday morning. I will take pictures and post them if I figure out how to do that.
Hi Dale, thanks for that - much appreciated.
Looks like Dave Spencer's 1994 C34 definitely has a fixed bulkhead, so it will be interesting to see what the setup is on your later model.

Thanks Dave - that does help.
It's now occurred to me that maybe the bulkhead was fixed by design and a previous owner had a creaking problem - couldn't fix it, so decided to convert into a floating bulkhead by shortening the screws and leaving them installed for the cosmetics.

Hi Dale,
Thanks for the reply.
Re the cut retaining screws - either they were intentionally cut during manufacture to limit the distance (about 5mm) the screw penetrated the fibreglass flange, or by the previous owner.

I can't think of a reason why this was done except, maybe, just shoddy workmanship?
Anyway, I'd be interested to know if full length screws were employed on your boat.

Hi all,
I have a 2005 C34 MKII and lately been bugged by the creaking of the forward bulkhead caused by movement between the top of the bulkhead and the ceiling.

Close inspection reveals that the retaining screws along the outer edge of the bulkhead have been cut to length such that they only protrude around 5mm beyond the thickness of the bulkhead ply.
This seems to suggest the screws are cosmetic and the top of the bulkhead is intended to be floating.

So, to my questions.
Is the top of the bulkhead intended to be floating?
If so, any suggestions to resolve the creaking issue?
Why shouldn't I (by appropriate means) permanently attach the bulkhead to the ceiling?

Best regards,
Allan

Hi All,
I'm having no fun googling the world for Sureflo 3200 Macerator Pump Spares (Pump Head Kit or Lip Seal Kit) from down here in Australia  :cry4`
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction  :donno:

Thanks to all of you that replied. Capn Dan on sailnet.com has pointed me to http://kimbroughracingproducts.com/store/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=29872 which looks like it will do the job with minor modification. I have ordered some and eagerly await their arrival.
Hope this info is useful to others.
cheers

Hi all,
Well, my  Raymarine ST4000 MK2 Autopilot gearbox has decided to quit - 3 of the nine plastic gears stripped.
Before parting with $$$ for a new gearbox (if I can find one), maybe somebody knows where I can get some replacement gears?
Raymarine would not have made the gearbox themselves, so does anyone have an idea who manufactured it?
The motor is a Mabuchi RS-555-SH but it looks like they didn't manufacture the gearbox.
Any info would be most welcome.
Btw, in my search I have turned up parts list, diagrams, etc of the ST4000 MK2 - pm me for a copy.
Here's hoping....
