Main Message Board / Re: Aluminum Rub Rail Track

Thank you!! All good. When we took the old rub rail off, there was a lot of dirt and grime in the track. All cleaned up now and ready for the new rub rail today. Thanks for your help.

I'm about to take out the old rub rail on our MKII and replace with a new one from Catalina Direct. Prior to installing the new one, I would like to clean the aluminum track. I'm looking for suggestions on the best way and product to do the cleaning. In some reading, it appears that there is the possibility of using something that would prematurely 'break down' the new rub-rail...I would like to avoid that!!

Thanks for your help!

It is the hot engine smell...no leaks...but definitely a diesel finish. Thank you for the quick responses. I'll do some digging about your suggestions, Jim.

Main Message Board / Diesel smell in aft cabin
May 31, 2013, 01:16:15 PM
I have a 2000 MKII. After running the engine for any length of time, there is a strong diesel smell in the aft-cabin. Are there any tricks to get it out of the boat quickly so the smell doesn't linger...or better yet...not have the smell linger at all and go out the exhaust?? The captain really doesn't like the diesel smell when she is in the galley so she closes the door.

I'll have to do a test to see where the actual leak is...between seal and plexiglass or behind frame. That is a good question. I expect they will simply need a good cleaning. We are sailing it in Ottawa, Dave. With hopes to get to the Great Lakes with it in the next couple of years.

Regards,
Andrew

I did the deed and, you're right, Kevin, it is quite an easy procedure...just a bit of a daunting thought of pulling a plug on the bottom of the boat. Regardless, it all is fine and the seal is holding well. All is good and I'll now know how fast I'm going. Thanks all for the comments!  :clap

Ok...thanks for the feedback. I'll give it a crack tomorrow...with sponges/towels in hand.

The speed transducer was not installed into the 'through hull' when we took delivery of our boat. She is now in the water. How do I install the transducer without getting water in the boat?

Main Message Board / Port light seals

I just took delivery of a 2000 MKII and my wife and I are on quite a learning curve...never owning a cruising sailboat before. I'm certain I will have lots of questions in here as we figure out all the systems. Today's question: Some of the port lights seem to be leaking when it rains. Is there an adjustment on the locks to tighten the seal or should I be replacing the seals? If replacement is required, are there instructions somewhere on how to do it?

Appreciate the help!
