Looking for words of wisdom, suggestions for removal of coupling from shaft as I am swapping out old dripless stuffing box for new and having real issues with removing coupling. It must have been off about 8-10 years ago prior to my taking ownership. Have gone through videos, got a professional to coach me. Lots of penetrating oil, 4 bolts attached and after an hour or more moved it about 1/16 - 1/8th of inch, or I really hope I moved it at least that far. I have read differing opinions on heat, also concerned with confined space and I have not uncovered boat (winter storage on the hard) as yet due to a couple of leaks requiring repair. Any thoughts helpful. Thanks, David, Ceilidh II

Main Message Board / Wet Deck Drains - 1987 C34
November 20, 2012, 10:22:41 AM
3rd season with 1987 C34 (hull 388), re-bedded all stanchions and having to re-bed them in particular those near deck drains. Upon taking them off I noticed the drains were patched on the inside of boat by one of the previous owners. On further examination it appears the drains themselves are not sealed and so the core is quite wet. I am having some one with a moisture meter take readings particularly going down the hull. I can see the damage on the deck from removing the stanchions. It appears previous owners also just kept tightening the stanchions so decking at the bolts is very thin.

That is my situation and now my question is has anyone else found problems with the deck drains and did moisture creep into the hull below and what was the resulting repair. The deck portion I know what to do, the hull portion does concern me slightly. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Main Message Board / Blistering on Wing Keel
November 07, 2010, 04:42:06 PM
My 1987 C34 wing keel that has developed some blistering on both starboard and port sides of wing keel. I can not tell if previous owner attempted to address the problem and it did not work or if it is just the slag becoming loose with age. I am finding a red rust coloured dust just above the lead and the top layer of the keel just comes away in my hands.  In any case I have started the process of repair and I am wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and what advise might you have. My plan is to take a grinder and get down to lead then build back up with Interlux Watertight, smoothing as I go, then primer and anti-fouling.
Open to any suggestions.
