They are simply called "snap ring pliars".  They make them for inside rings and outside rings and they make different sizes of them.  Obviously for this task you need small ones for outside rings.

I also did away the the screws on the end caps.  I tapped to 10 - 24 which might be a little small but better that the screws that were in there.

Thanks Ron,
My outhaul was also all twisted because of the swiveling block, and yes, it was 1/4 inch line.  I will replace with non-swiveling blocks.  The 20 series blocks are 1 11/16 diameter and the ones I removed were 1 inch.

Hi all,

I have my boom off, both end caps removed and going to upgrade to a 5 to 1 purchase.  My question is, for those of you that used Garhauer blocks, did you go with 15 or 20 series blocks?

We put a 2 1/2 inch one in our V-birth 2 years ago and it has held up quite well....... and we love it.

Our hour meter is in the tachometer.  Maybe you don't have an OEM tach.

It's really not as bad as it sounds.  It takes about 30 minutes to launch once the boat is ready and about 45 to an hour to haul.  About 6 of us work together.  We all have done it many times so everyone knows what their job is.

At our location a crane isn't an option.  There is no sea wall and the crane only has so much of a reach when it's picking up 15 to 20 thousand pounds.

One day a couple years ago there was not a breath of air moving so I decided we would motor out on the lake and jump in.  What does that have to do with calibrating your wind instrument, well if there is no wind, absolutely none and you are motoring at 7 knots your wind instrument should be reading 7 knots.  Try it, it may give you an idea if your wind indicator is at least close.

Yep, everyone in our marina uses a trailer.  We don't have a choice, there is no boat lift.  There are a few boat bigger/heavier than our 34 but we are pushing the limit for trailering. 

Actually I pull it with my 4X4 Chevy pickup (in 4 low), but only about 2 blocks from the boat storage yard to the ramp.  When we get to the ramp we use at least 2 pickups hooked together with tow straps to back it down the ramp. At waters edge we block the trailer, unhook, drive 40 ft. forward and hook up a 40,000 lb. tow strap and then pull forward a few inches to remove the blocks and then back up about 40 ft or until the boat floats off the trailer.  Actually it's quite simple.

When we haul, driving the boat onto the trailer which it totally under water is not quite as simple.  Although, it is the same process in reverse.

Clear as mud right?

Our boat is insured for 65K and the trailer for 7K with Allstate for $315 per year.  Includes towing, $300,000 liability and $250 ded.

Mine don't have a splice, but even if they did mine are different on the on the fore and aft end of the strips.  The front is more tapered to a point.  Not sure if that helps you or not.

OK, my very first car (when I was in the 9th grade) was a 1930 Model A 2 door sedan...... and no I didn't buy it new.  The gas tank and the dash were one in the same.  A float gauge was visible through a viewing glass in the center.  I started it many times with the hand crank.

I am not certain, but I think it is a 5/16.

I do have them on mine, 918.  They are attached to the 4X4's and cantilever aft.  They are what the propane locker sits on.  You don't notice them from looking in the stern locker because they are covered with a piece of plywood.

Hey Stu,

Are ya trying to set a record on how many years you can get out of one set of sails.  I bought new Kappa Sails to replace my 17 year old sails 2 years ago.  Possibly a "Question of the Month".... how old are your sails?
