OK gentlemen . I've read your discussion regarding the merits of Butyl Tape vs other sealants. I've looked on line and learned there are various widths & thicknesses . I'm ready to re-bed my chain plates. Someone tell me the width/ thickness I should use AND the best place to purchase it.

Main Message Board / Hinge Pins for Bomar Hatch
May 21, 2013, 01:02:44 PM
My 34 is a 1987 model with a Bomar Hatch for the V Berth.  I have noticed that the hinge pins are working out from the hinges on both sides.  Anyone experience this problem and what is the solution?

Cancel that question.  I just managed to find it in a West Marine Catalog.

Just discovered that I have managed to misplace or lose my extractor hoses for my Tempo Oil Boy. Is it possible to just order the extractor hoses and adapters from someone rather than ordering a new pump?

Why not connect them to the handrails, port & starboard?   ....... just a thought.

The solenoid went out on my propane system this past weekend. Searching through West Marine I see that Seaward make a LPG Locker Kit with Solenoid.  Since my boat is a 1987 Catalina 34, I'm seriously considering replacing the entire system based on the age. Has anyone used the Seaward Locker Kit?  I also saw that Ron Hill had inquired about the length of hose that leads from the locker to the stove.  Is it 15 feet or 20feet?  Also, is there a better resource other than West Marine?

Get a lower unit quart pump for an outboard.  About $11 @ West Marine.  Get a tupperware pint jar.  The pump fit nicely into the tranny opening.  When you have finished pumping it into the pint jar. Mark the jar with duck tape. Empy the old fluid.  Fill the jar up to your mark with new fluid, change the pump around and pump the contents into the tranny.

Thanks.  I do believe that is the one.  I'll check to make doubly sure when I return to the boat this weekend.

I seem to remember that either Ron Hill or Mike Vaccaro wrote an article within the past year about replacing that small (probably 6" hose) on the front of the engine.  I thought I made a copy of it, but can't find it.  Anyway, I'm looking for replacement hose before I begin this project.  I know it needs replacing because all of you Captains have coached us about replacing the hoses that are still bronze in color. This is the only one left that is bronze.  I am also curious if this hose is something that can be found from our friendly Kubota Dealer?

Ron

I purchased a Gates fan belt as a matter of fact.  I'm pleased with it.  Thanks for the advice on the Sender.  I'll look through my Defender & West Marine Catalogs.

Ron

After reading information in Tech Notes, I discovered that I do not have an overflow tank on my boat, even though the manual states that if you have a water heater it might be a good idea to have an overflow tank.  I shall install the "Ron Hill Rubber Maid "qt bottle on my next trip. I know to cut the tubing at an angle to avoid a vacuum. Do I put some coolant in the qt bottle to begin with? Also, I assume that you seal the top with silicone where the tubing goes through the cap.

My last trip out I noticed my fuel gage bouncing back & forth.  Before I returned to the marina it just went to sleep.  I've checked the wiring and it all appears to be intact.  I suspect I may have to replace my sender.  Is this something I must order from Catalina or are there other sources.  It appears to be straight forward in terms of removing and replacing.  BUT, any advice would be greatly appreciated.    Incidentally Stu, I found my fan belt at a automotive supply, but did not have success at Napa.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm hoping to go by NAPA to pick up a spare fan belt for my Catalina. 86 vintage with 25 XP engine.  Anyone have the parts # for a NAPA fan belt?

Also looking to replace my radiator cap rated at 13lbs.  Does NAPA have something like that OR can I find it at a Kubota dealer?

Thanks for your help.
