Main Message Board / Re: Replacing Vang and Traveller
November 27, 2012, 10:02:17 AM
I added a fixed vang and new traveller, both from Garhauer and am completely satisfied.  Called them up, explained what I had, they gave me modification options for the traveller & both the vang & traveller work fine.

Jim,
Thanks for the video.  As you, I have two of the toilet flange wax seals aboard but fortunately have not had to use them. Might try to create a situation somehow & give it a try to see for myself how well it works in case I really have to use it.

I agree with the last couple of posts, depends where you are, in S. Cal you would be hard pressed to see many wing keels, and I'm sure the finn keels would resell at a higher price.

Cliff,

Here is a picture of my fuel cut-off and sender access.  Picture is taken from down below with the aft port panel removed and above you can see the access plate located in the forward end of the port cockpit locker.

That's it Stu.  They still look like I just painted them.

Thanks,

I also did what Kevin Henderson suggested with the Rustoleum paint from his May 2011 post.  I did mine in Aug. of 2011, just waxed them again last month, and they still look great.  If interested, type in 'dorade & traveller upgrade' in the [Search Box] and click on my post of Aug. 2011 to see a picture of the results.

Steve,

Don't know what's right or wrong but under the heading 'IMO or other number' on the documentaton form for my boat shows the whole alfa numeric string.

I believe you have hull #81 with a production date of 5-86.

Just replaced my sending unit last week. Installed a WEMA USA SSL12 fuel level sensor unit.  Solid SS rod with a float on it.  Has been used by some people here with good results.  My tank is full & it shows full so we will see.

For what it's worth regarding my previous post, I did our upgrade in 08, not 98.  It's hell getting old and forgetfull.

lt sounds like a recurring theme, loose platform.  My heater rusted out and was leaking in June of 98 and the platform was loose.  I resanded, repainted and reepoxyed it and replaced the heater with a Kuuma 6 Gal. heater and everything has been fine since.  I guess the platform needs to checked every so often to make sure it hasn't broken loose from the hull.

Chuck,

Just had Keith down to the boat last Friday to do the final measurements on our boat for a new main using the Sept. 15th, 30% off deal for a spring delivery.  Also have had one of my 155's worked on there, seem to be good people.

Your right Ed, they do sail easy with one sail up.  A lot of times if iv'e been working on the boat or we just want to run out and sail for an hour or so in the late afternoon we just unfurl the 150 and sail with the jib, it's a comfortable sail in those wind conditions and I feel its more like sailing because your using the jib.  The biggest positive with this is that there's nothing exrta to do when you come in, the jib gets furled and your done.

Kevin,

Thanks for the info on the discount with Ullman by Sept. 15th.  I have used their loft in Santa Ana before to work on one of my 150's.  I called them and they have the same discount as the SD loft. I believe I will get the same sail except that I will go with the two full battens and and be loose footed.  I have no idea how old the main I have is, but even with 4 full battens it takes a lot of work to get it to set properly, time for a new one. The price is $100 more as I have a tall rig.

Thanks for the post.

Juian,

Did you ever find out what the problem was with your C70?
