Main Message Board / dinghy outboard size
July 18, 2004, 01:01:13 PM
I'm looking into getting a dinghy for my c34.

I'd like to get something that would plane with say 300lbs or so of passengers onboard. What size motor would I need for say a 9' inflatable?
Would a 5hp do it or would I need 8+hp?

Any opinions on inflable floors vs. plywood?
I'm also looking for an inflatable that I could stow onboard as well as quick setup.

thanks, David

You might try relocating your antenna to cut down on the noise.

I had the same problem with my Truecharge20 creating noise on some stations.  It turned out the PO had just stuck a basic automotive antenna in the area just below the electrical panel, about a foot from the charger.

I moved the antenna forward and that seemed to help some, at least for my radio. (I've heard that most radios built these days have some sort of noise suppression already built in to the power circuit)

If you're having noise when playing CD/tapes then you may have a problem different from mine and the noise is coming through your power source.

I would say no... it should quickly fill to normal operating levels once your engine is running.

If you don't see water coming out of your exhaust shortly after you start your engine you have other problems.

Has anyone, as Ron suggested, changed their rear mounts to K75 and their front mounts to K50?

I would think that the softer mounts in the front would cause the engine to want to want to dive more in the front when shaking side to side causing stress and/or vibration.  Or maybe
it's negligible.

Has anyone compared directly the K50's to the K75's - first hand on different c34's?

It looks like the MITSTEUN are too tall, has
anyone successfully installed them?

I don't motor that much but it would be nice to lower the vibration a bit... but not at the expense of hard knocks when starting or shifting gears... or other issues like hitting the shaft tube.

Main Message Board / Replacing Masthead Sheeve

Update: After getting to the masthead and seeing that the sheave seemed to be ok, at least not frozen or worn unevenly I decided to go with a smaller halyard.  (and lots of sail kote)

I went with a hi-tech 3/8" line (that cost me far too much money) but it made a huge improvement.

I can pretty much pull the sail up then entire way without using the winch. (though it does require my sailing gloves for the last 1/4).

Maybe one day when I pull the mast or get a half crazed yard crane operator to dangle me above the mast I'll replace the sheave.  Until then I'm happy to get a little bit of exercise when raising the main.

Thanks all.

Now it's time to put some stanchion blocks for the jib furling line.

ps. I think the 7/16 halyard that was on the boat had swollen a bit compounding the fact that it was already oversized.

How about removing the upper stays and removing the masthead without pulling the mast?  No...

Sounds like I may have to put my sheeve replacement a bit further down on my list.

Thanks

Has anyone done this?

Can I replace the sheeve for the main aloft or do I have to "pull the stick?"
