Thanks, Stu.  I've been satisfied with the Bruce that came with my '91 C34 when I bought it in '05, and was puzzled to find the FX16 deployed as the only hook on the late model I'm considering, tho for fair weather cruisers here on the Chesapeake it has apparently been adequate.  Will do the due diligence.

I'm selling me '91 C34 to a Montreal couple and considering buying a later model C34 which has only the Fortress FX 16 you mentioned.  I've been used to a Bruce, so the Fortress seems a tad bit light, tho I appreciate that it is designed for easier handling than a typical Danforth/knockoff.  Wondering if I should consider getting a Bruce as backup or even to replace the FX, which becomes the backup.

Ron & guys,

I'm looking to acquire a C34 MK II with Forespar davits installed, which looks good to me.  Don't anticipate having most problems noted above with cruising not likely to be done outside Chesapeake and inshore waters.

Cheers!

Guys, I need to acquire an emergency tiller for my '91 C34, so I suppose the only source would be Catalina, right?  Checked WM but not in catalog.
Thanks,
Bill

Bob, my C34 is a '91 hull #1140 and has walk thru transom/swim platform/keel stepped mast (water in bilge after rains) wing keel/tall rig/23hp Universal diesel.
Tall rig/wing keel is best for the Chesapeake (I'm based in Annapolis MD), particularly because of the skinny waters hereabouts.  Tall rig/fin keel might be best choice for you in SoCal light airs.  If you decide to venture North of Point Conception the keel stepped mast might be a good thing due to the high winds/big sea conditions.
So, since you're interested in the open transom design you might want to extend your search to the '90/91 models.
Best wishes!

John, I purchased a '91 C34 in '05 which came with a starting battery in the settee box forward of the galley and four Trojan T-105 golf cart batteries in the settee storage compartment just aft of the v-berth bulkhead.  Replaced the T-105s last year because they were 8 or 9 years old, tho still holding a charge.
Best wishes,

Not this trip, Mike, with Bay Area visit strictly business with HP, etc., sailing around in  freeway traffic.
Occasionally sail with friend in Santa Barbara, one of the beauty spots on the planet.
Have son in San Diego who has a kayak, so we went to beach in La Jolla for kayaking and swimming Sunday.

Thanks, Ron!  Will visit hardware store and check out sanders.

Reno, I had the same problem and discovered a pressure leak in the 'welding' of the tank material around the circumference of the inspection port, removed tank and had repair made for $25-50 and no further problem since last year.

Thanks, Stu & Larry.  I don't know what product the PO put on the teak, but I have random orbital sander and heat gun so will get old stuff off and apply Cetol.  Thanks for the suggestions.

Stu, have been using corporate computer for years to do email and reports in Outlook but slow in navigating Internet outside of work, so appreciate your guidance.  BTW, was in Bay Area on biz Tues-Fri (former Marin resident) and stopped by Latitude 38 in MV to chat with Richard.  Now visiting family in San Diego before returning to The Sailing Capital (Annapolis) tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Craig & Ron, thanks for your responses.  I'm just learning how to use the mesage board and that was my first post.  Tried the heat gun and scraper which seemed to work ok but hadn't thought of removing teak from boat to work on, tho don't have belt sander at home.  Still, sounds like might be good idea to remove wood and take home to work on.  Unfamiliar with how message board works so assuming this message is going to both of you.

Kind regards and thanks again!
