Main Message Board / Lithium Install on a MkII
February 25, 2024, 03:47:08 PM
Has anyone here done a lithium installation on a Mk II?

I'd like to do a complete Victron set up with 2 x 200ah batteries, smart BMS, Phoenix 12/2000 inverter and a smart charger, but I'm struggling to think of spaces for fitting all the different components. The batteries wouldn't be a problem, but the inverter is a big beast.

Shipping from UK to Caribbean this November and then cruise the islands for a few years. 😄

Love the new look well done. But the Catalina logo picture is a mess. If a mod wants to contact me, I'd be happy to do a better one.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the tip about pipe dope. What was what was concerning me, was how to get a leak-proof fit with the bronze elbows pointing in the right direction.

Main Message Board / Reassembly of Cooling System

Hi all,

I'm about to start reassembling my cooling system with a new pump and new hoses. I have a couple of questions.

When screwing in the old hose elbow joints to the new pump I plan to use just PTFE tape. Should I also use a thread lock solution?

When attaching new hoses is it best to grease the nipples with silicone or vaseline or some such, or should I just push them on dry?

Many thanks

Yes, this happens on my MkII. No wires exit at deck level, only at the base of the compression post.

The mounting point at the foot of the post has a small channel to take cables from the mast. This isn't deep enough to take the very chunky plug on the Raymarine radar, so I opted for the wi fi connection between that and my Axiom mounted at the helm. This works perfectly OK.

If wi fi can handle complex video data from a radar unit, then it should't have the slightest difficulty with a bit of wind data. Tac Tik built a whole business on wi fi transmitted data.

Thank you. That's good to know. It'll certainly add a major cost to the conversion to lithium.

It's because I read somewhere that you need an alternator with an external regulator for a lithium setup. So, I was going to ask the OP what he did about this aspect of the install.

Hi Seniorquill, I know this is an old thread but a quick question. Did you replace your alternator for an externally regulated one as part of this install?

I've got no experience of wifi wind instruments, but I do have a wifi connection to my Quantum radar. It works just fine - except when the boom is dead central.

Navionics runs just fine on my latest gen Axiom Pro.

Thank you Ed. I'll look for that here in the UK. I'm also seriously considering blanking off the whole thing. 🤔

I'd love to know what the internal diameter of that hose was.

Hi Jim,

Definitely coming from aft, somewhere near the transom. It could be the lockers but my money is on the scuppers.
