Main Message Board / Sherwood impeller
February 06, 2010, 12:45:23 PM
Hello!

I would like to know how long do you run with a new impeller?

With my Sherwood pump (old model) I run my M-25 for about 70 hours...
I need to change it every spring before sailing season.
I run in soft water no mud or anything like this.

I dont see anything wrong in the pump.
I looked to the intake,  the marelon valve ½ is not ½ hole just about 3/8''??? I think there is a restriction of the water flow, and plan to change this valve next season...

Anyway this is not normal to run 70 hours with a impeller.....

In my C&C-29 i didn't change this impeller in 6 years????

Your input please?

Hello

I think i have too much sag on my stay. ( about 8 inches) look at eye.... at 20 knots app. wind. genoa 135% full open.
I don't have backstay adjuster.
Each of my double wires on backstay is at 750 pounds on loosegage.
Is that correct?

Main Message Board / Battery charger
July 24, 2008, 05:24:49 PM
Hello

When i bought my Catalina there where 2 batt. chargers in.
1 - DYTECK 15a 2 banks.
1- Guest no-2615 15a 2 banks.

The DYTEK was installed, and the Guest was stored in a bag.

The DYTEK is ded two weeks ago......
I installed the Guest and it's run well....
I have installed this year to two bank of golf car batt. 6 volts Trojan.

My question!
Is this charger suffisent for the new bank?
Is this charger charge 15A at each bank or 7.5A at each bank?
When my Dytek wil be repared is this a good idea to intall one charger per bank?

Hello!

My good friend is buying a C-34 wing keel 1990.
We will have to make a cradle for, but... mine is a fin keel...
Is somebody have a drawing of this cradle in his manual?
Or measurement of the eight of the supports? And the distance between the supports at the top?

Thank you very much.

Main Message Board / Forestay sag...
July 11, 2007, 04:46:12 PM
Hello !

This afternoon i was looking the sag of my forestay...

18 - 20 Kn wind  about 40 deg. appt. wind ... with tighted luff 135 genoa.
Looking up the forestay... evaluate about 8-10 inches of sag.
Harken furler.
I think it's too much

the tension of my split backstay is 850-900 pounds. On each side. (no backstay adjuster)

Do you think that i have to retight the forestay?

The speed of the boat is OK 6.5-7 Kn. But i'm feeling bad with this sag...
What do you think of ?

Thank you.

Main Message Board / Halyards
January 07, 2007, 12:14:02 PM
Hello!

Last year i changed genoa and mainsail  halyards on my C-34.
In the manual they said 3/8 ropes. I did it.

The genoa halyard is rather ok ... Because i have a Harken roller furler . I don't have to raise the sail every time.

But the main is a problem...
If i don't pull with my other hand the rope slip in the st-winch.

What is the diam. of halyards ropes on your Cat-34?

Thank

Main Message Board / Furling line
December 21, 2006, 03:21:49 PM
Hello

I bought my Catalina last year and i'm upgrading many things.
The previous owner had installed a wire line to the furler.( Harken unit-1) just like a halyard, wire 5/32 spliced to a 3/8 rope.
Actually the boat is under the snow... and i can't try anything.
I think that i need a 3/8 line on the furler drum. Is that ok?
If no what is the diam. of your furling line.

Also i want to install a XAS Spinlock rope clutch near the cockpit, on my furling line. I'm  always alone to handle the sails and i think that it will be a great helper to furl the genoa in strong winds.
Last year in 30 kn wind i was'nt able to hold back the line to furl the genoa.  I must take the genoa sheet winch to furl....
Is that a good idea to intall a rope clutch?
Where is the better place?

Thank all.

Hello!

I will have to replace the top bushing of my c-34 rudder.

Do you have something to suggest?

Is that a big job to remove the top head in the cockpit?

I will manufacture the bushing myself in my machine shop, with acetal- delrin.

I am a new Catalina owner.
First excuse my bad english!
I purchased my boat last september # 58  1986. She was on Lake Erié. Now in Lac St-Jean north east Quebec (near the moon). :D
My first question is: What kind of sails was the standard in 1986. My sails are from North, i think that is not original sails...

Thank you!
