I was helping a C-34 friend re-build a Oberdorfer water pump, but we are having a hard time removing the inner seal. Any suggestions on how to remove the inner seal? We banged the outter seal out with a lot of effort, but the inner seal is not budging.... Any ideas would be appreciated.

Check this out! A pod of 20 gray whales spotted traveling south five miles off the coast of San Diego. A pod this large is basically unheard of in this area.

Main Message Board / Re-pitching 3 Blade Prop
April 27, 2012, 11:37:25 AM
I hauled out last week for a bottom job and after all of the threads on rudder seepage I was so happy to inspect mine and see no problem at all. I did decide to repitch my 3 blade 15x9 prop to 15x10 at a cost of $194 at Wilmington Propeller. Prior to the repitch @ 2,500 RPM I would go 5.7 to 6 knots over ground, and 6.1 to 6.4 at 2,700 RPM. I can't wait to see if there is any improvement in performance and how this extra load will affect my engine temperature which usually runs at 175 degrees on my M25XP. Stay tuned.

I also changed my cutlass bearing because it was a slight bit sloppy at the stearn. How long do these things last on average?

I am going to replace the anchor locker hose and through hull fitting in a few weeks and would like to know if it is stubborn to remove, does it screw out, or just pop out? A dock neighbor said that it screws out and I thought that it would simply push out since it has a nut on the inside of the hull. Are there any tricks to removing it if it is stuck? Or should it simple pop out with a hammer? Just trying to think ahead before I start this job. It has been leaking and has finally come to the top of the list.

I have some water spots that have appeared to have removed the oil on the teak below a few of my port lights. Do I have to sand the whole piece of teac and re-oil it or can I spot sand and re-oil the damaged area only? I am looking for any insight on the easiest way to repair this unsightly staining. I was just going to sand the damaged area with 320 grit and lightly sand the rest of the piece, then re-oil the whole piece. The wood is not varnished, just oiled and a dark redish color. Any tricks I need to be aware of before I start?

Main Message Board / Limit of Positive Stability
November 09, 2011, 05:36:08 PM
I recently read the report following the Chicago - Mac race where the Kiwi 35 "Wingnuts" blew over in 60 knot sustained winds and capsized. That brought about a lot of discussion about the Limit of Positive Stability for various yacht designs and apparently most cruising/racing boats have a LPS of between 110 degrees and 120 degress. Wingnuts had a LPS of between 74 degrees to 100.7 degress! Does anyone know what the Limit of Positive Stability is for a C-34?
