Title: Engine Replacement Guide
Post by: Ken Juul on December 06, 2010, 08:44:03 AM
Gary Ambrose (Kije 1986 C34 # 215) asked me to post a PDF of the rough dimensions and power output of marine engines provided to him by Westerbeake.  Helpful if you are considering an engine swap.

It is attached here and also in the Engine "Also of Interest" section of the Wiki

Guys : Ken has listed the "number dimensions" of the differant engines.  However, I remind you of the 3 major considerations that you have to deal with :

1. engine compartment size - not only does the engine have to fit in that area, but you also have to preform maintenance - change & drain oil/fuel filters, connect wiring/cables, check fuses/breakers etc.

2. exhaust system - you are pretty much committed to using the Catalina muffler in the MK I, so make sure it will connect and you can inspect the connections.

3. connection to the drive shaft - the "given" in the hull that you CAN NOT change (with out MANY changes) is the packing gland /drive shaft angle.  The engine MUST align to the drive shaft.  The coupling on the drive shaft must have room to fit and attach to the transmission.
