I want to install solar panels above our bimini, which we want to remain collapsible, so we can enjoy the sun in Canada. I've seen kits that install the panels on a permanent bimini. Anyone done what I want to do? Thanks, Kerk

I haven't done it, but I've seen it done on a dockmates Waquiez 40. The panel is mounted on swivel clamps on the aft support bar. The bimini did have to be cut to allow access for the clamps. When he folds the bimini up, the swivels allow the panel to lay flat against the backstay. (Picture the panel facing aft.) He actually had a new piece of canvass cut so he could cover both the panel and the folded bimini, but he hardly uses it. He normally leaves the bimini unfurled and the panel at the optimum angle.
It would be much easier to mount the solar panels on the dodger, the life lines, or the deck in front of the dodger.
