Title: Interpretting the specs....
Post by: Mark Elkin on June 26, 2001, 04:19:19 PM
I was looking at the C34 specs.  In the "sail plan" portion are 4 dimensions:

 I  44'-0"  46'-0"
 J  13'-6"  13'-6"
 P  38'-6"  40'-6"
 E  12'-0"  12'-0"

What do those letters stand for?  They are not shown on the brochure.

Thanks.

The first column is for a standard rig and the next is the Tall rig...
J= horizontal dist. from the mast to the forward most jibstay intersepts the deck or jib tack.
P= Mainsail host
E=Mainsail foot..Dist between the aft edge of the mast to the inner edge of the band on the boom.
I= The upper point is the intersection of the mast and the highest jibstay sheeve. The lowest point is the shear line abreast the mast.This is usually a factory supplied distance used for handicapping.
 Your sailmaker needs to know these numbers.
