Title: Vents on Mark 2
Post by: Bill Sedgwick on January 15, 2004, 07:07:07 AM
The 1996 C34 Mk2 I'm looking at doesn't have air vents in the cabin like the Mk 1. Is this a problem and have vents been added to other Mk2s either by owners or the factory?

I have 2 Vetus vents in the salon and one in the aft cabin of my 1990. I think this was standard for 1990.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
MkII's don't have dorade vents for the salon.  I would think you could add them if you like them.

The MKII’s have 4” low profile vents located over the head and entry into the aft stateroom.  These can be locked in either the fully closed position or in a slightly opened “vent” position (as can the large center cabin hatch).  Freya (#1476) has a dodger, which shields the small vents so rain isn’t a problem, but unless you expect a lot of rain, the low profiles ought to  keep the boat both well vented and dry.  We keep the aft stateroom and head doors opened for better ventilation when we leave the boat.  We too, were concerned over the lack of a vent over the stove.  But in practice, this hasn’t been a problem, although we are not boiling lots of water and the summers are pretty temperate in SF.  We considered installing a galley vent, but I think it might interfere with the lines going to the deck organizer.  A better approach might be installing a solar powered fan in the center cabin hatch.
