Title: Can someone tell what this is please?

This has been kicking around the boat since we bought her in 2005. 

I suspect it was fitted above the original battery charger, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone identify please?

Our boats are close in hull numbers.  I can't say I've ever seen anything like that on Shamrock, so don't think it's OEM Catalina.  Do you have a trash can under that small cutting board?  Maybe that's the mounting shelf for the trash can.

Maybe a PO installed it over the battery charger as a heat/drip shield?  Next trip to Shamrock will have a look at the trash can mounting to see if that's metal.  Don't think it is but really don't remember.

Jim, I do have a trash can under the cutting board, and it sits on a shelf of some kind, plywood I think.  I need to look and see if it was altered to suit a non standard battery charger.  That was the only place I could think of.  Obviously if nothing has fallen off since '05 it is redundant, just bothering me.

I don't know what it is but I know as soon as you toss it, you will find it's use.
