Title: port hole gasket replacement troubles.
Post by: SeaOfDreams on July 22, 2019, 11:45:43 AM
My 2005 C34 needs to have port hole gaskets replaced.  The Catalina Direct has Lewmar 2881 opening ports for around $245 each, which is no big deal if you have to do one or two of them but I'd rather learn how to replace these gaskets because sooner or later I'll have to replace the others. Catalina Direct sent me a gasket kit which is much thicker than the original that came with the boat and it seems to be quite difficult in fitting it without feeling like you're going to break something. Their claim is that is what Catalina is supplying for these particular port holes and the original gaskets for for that port hole have been discontinued. I'm at South Beach Harbor and I know I'm surrounded by a few other C34s members so any tips for how your solved your issues would be greatly appreciated!

Try P2 Marine: https://www.p2marine.com/lewmar/lewmar-hatches-and-portlights

You'll need to figure out which model of Portlight you have.  Mine on my 34 Mk II (built 2000) are 1RE.  I've ordered replacement gaskets and screens.

Hope this helps.

I don't know if you saw the instructions that Lewmar provides for gasket replacement.  I've attached a copy.
