I need to remove my hatch cover to replace the cracked glass. What's the best way to remove the hatch cover.
Thanks.. ron
ron : Which hatch? and what year C34 production?
Same vintage as yours Ron..
It's the hatch above dinette table.
ron : You have a Bomar. I wanted to do the same thing - remove the hatch. I tried to drive out the nylon hatch pins, but couldn't get them out. I finally replaced the entire hatch - wasn't that difficult. Wrote a Mainsheet tech note article with pictures on the removal & replacement.
I replaced the Bomar with another Bomar, but would recommend a Lewmar instead. The replaced Bomar has the same adjusting arm attachment to the lens which is a crack waiting to happen!! The Lewmar hatches of that size has the friction in the hinge itself and easier to adjust.
A few thoughts
I removed the whole hatch as well and it out to selectplastic to replace the broken 'glass'.
Make sure you pay attention to the radius of the corners if you replace the hatch. The one I ordered was the same size but did not fit well. I ended up returning it and refinishing the old one for minimal cost.
