Title: International MMSI & Boat Capacity
Post by: britinusa on September 21, 2015, 04:51:49 AM
We're in the process of getting an MMSI number, and as we intend to sail Eximius outside of the USA, we have to go through the process.

First step is to get a FRN (FCC Registration Number)

Next is FCC 605 Schedule B.

We have to report the Capacity of the Boat. (Max Number of souls onboard)

I have not seen anywhere where Catalina states that number.

Several members have reported carrying more than 10 people on their boats, but what is the official max capacity?

Anyone know the answer?

Thanks.

Paul

Do they mean the number of souls on the boat during your trip or are they referring to tonnage?  My documentation papers show gross and net tonnage.

Paul,
Out of curiosity, what are the net and gross tonnage based on your documentation records?

Thanks!

Paul,
From the FCC 605 Schedule B Form:
Quote15) Ship Information: Gross Tonnage:
Quote20) Capacity of Persons on Board (including passengers and crew): _______________

FYI, here's a link to the form:FCC 605 Schedule B Form (https://transition.fcc.gov/Forms/Form605/605b.pdf)

Actually, my question about net and gross tonnage is for Paulus in Michigan.   :D

What is the net and gross tonnage calculated from your documentation records?

Roc
Gross Tonnage:  10GRT  Net Tonnage: 9NRT
Do  not know how the govt arrived at these numbers.  I have always had a document vessel.

I believe it is not relevant for recreational boats. In any case just guess on the biggest "party" you would ever consider onboard while underway.

Noah, probably the best option.

We can sleep 2 in V-berth, 2 in aft berth, 1 on port settee, 2 on stbd settee that's 7 in the cabin.

Add one for each cockpit bench and one at the helm (reading bedtime stories)

So 10 souls max.

Not sure if we would be carrying enough food for that crowd and we had better have plenty of bog roll and be outside the 3 mile limit too!

8) 8)
