Title: Replacing Temp. sending unit
Post by: tandm on April 28, 2003, 08:07:35 PM
I have done all the checks and it appears that Peregrine's engine temperature sending unit has bit the reef and needs replacing.  It looks straight forward but it never hurts to check. So does anyone have and suggestions, tips or gotchas on changing out the unit?

It's a fairly standard part.  Easy to replace but don't use pipe tape since the circuit relies on a ground connection through the threads.  The tapered 'pipe' threads will ensure a seal.

Just got back from the boat. Took all of 10 min. to change out the temp. unit and now have a working temperature gauge.  Took off the cap and screwed the new unit in without tape or "goop" after removing the dead unit. I did not get any dripping but I may be a pint or two low on coolant. Thanx  for the help. :)
