Title: Facet fuel pump
Post by: Paulus on March 14, 2013, 04:27:32 AM
I am in the process of replacing all my fuel lines.  As some of you have suggested a spare fuel pump, even though my original facet pump is working nicely.  I did order a spare pump and discovered(thanks to NAPA) that the facet pump has a filter built into it.(on a slow learning curve).  I ordered a new filter for my existing pump.  Has anyone replaced this filter?  I have always replaced the other two filters at the beginning of our sailing season here in Michigan.  Interested in your thoughts on the facet pump.

Paul, the facet pump is the way to go. The internal filter is easy to get at and maintain.  It is just a very fine mesh/screen and a quick cleaning in some solvent and it should be good to go provided it is not damaged.  I have checked mine twice in 5 years and it has been clean.  My old 30 had the pump installed pre fuel filter and the pump was full of sludge when I took it apart to clean and replum the system correctly.  I also carrry a spare filter for the pump and plan to add a pump too my list.  Hepled a friend change out thiers last summer on a very hot summer day after waiting for their son to drive three hours to bring them a pump.

Paul : If you make sure that your facet fuel pump is after the Racor filter (tank, Racor, fuel pump, engine) you don't have to worry about cleaning the screen in the fuel pump - the Racor fuel filter just did the cleaning for you!!

Thanks Ron, yes the fuel pump is after the racor filter.  After 23 years I will take a look at it since I am replacing all the fuel lines.  Just did not know it was there until I ordered a spare pump from NAPA.

Paul : You can check it to be sure, but it'll be completely clean!!

And if it is not completely clean, you might want to think about a Racor filter with a smaller micron rating.   :D

The fuel pump no. is 610-1075 Gold Flo Facet.  I also ordered an extra filter for my old pump 610-1086.  The total cost at NAPA was $149.21

Replaced the filter in the fuel pump yesterday.  Replaced with new but the old one looked clean.  It was the same the as new filter.  Also replaced fuel lines and put on a KN Ru 2450 air filter, very nice fit and more surface area for air intake.  Thanks for the advice.
