Title: portlight replacement
Post by: crieders on July 05, 2011, 12:41:36 PM
I bought a few replacements but could not get the latches off to replace. Whats the secret here?

Right in the middle of the latch you'll see a round circle, a bit smaller then the latch it's self.  The is the cover for the nut that holds the latch on.  Use the sharp end of a small pocket knife to CAREFULLY pry that out, a little at a time all around it, you'll need it to reinstall on the latch.  With a small socket/nut driver unscrew the nut and remove the latch.  Mentally or physically mark left and right on the latches for reinstalling on the correct side.

Or just take the latches off one at a time.

How do you pry with a knife without leaving marks? Very carefully, I know... any other way?

The plugs usually aren't that hard to remove.  Might want to try a small screwdriver instead so you have a flat surface rather than a point.
