Title: Strange engine setup
Post by: chuck53 on April 23, 2011, 08:50:37 AM
Has anyone ever seen anything like this?  The first reaction is "what happened to the boat?"
Nothing happened.  It was built this way.  Baffles the heck out of me why.  The shaft comes out of the boat to the side at an angle of at least 10 degrees.

No, it's not a C-34.  Didn't think to look at the brand.  I was so shocked when I saw it, I didn't pay any attention to any other details of the boat.

I think a few manufactures did this.  I think Pearson was one of them.
The offset counteracts the natural tendency of a right handed prop to turn the boat to the left.

I think.

Wouldn't have to drop the rudder to take the prop shaft out.

Chuck : Not unusual at all, as there are a few boat manufactures out there that have an off set shaft !!

Went back to the marina today and turns out the boat is a Sabre and I understand that is one of the brands that used to do this.
