Not a Catalina.  Looks like a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey DS. . .

Assuming there was crew on board, I'll bet there was a whole boat load of soiled laundry to attend to.

That guy made a big mistake.

It's always better to have a little sail up in conditions like that.    Helps you punch through that first wave before you go vertical and smooths the roll out on the back side.
