Title: External GPS Antenna location.
Post by: Derek Taaning on May 30, 2009, 01:53:44 PM
I have mounted a Chartplotter on my pedistal, but I have concerns about where to mount the external antenna.  I have a 2005 Mkii with full Dodger, Bimini & Awning.
Thank you,
Derek

I have mine mounted on the stern top rail ... works fine.  I ran the wires down thru the rail and into the lazerette and up to my instruments on the pedestal.

Derek : I have a Garmin 545 and it has an internal antenna that "sees" well thru the Bimini with NO problem.  Mine is mounted on the pedestal steering guard.  Your's should be OK.

I have an "external" antenna on my new plotter and it is mounted under deck, port side, just ahead of the vented stantion for the holding tank.   It came with an under deck mount.   So check your instructions external doesn't necessarily mean external any more.
