Title: Mast Removeal - Keel Stepped
Post by: sselinger on October 05, 2008, 06:24:40 AM
Can anyone provide some guidance on the design of the lifting bridle to pull a keel stepped mast. I am pulling mine for the first time and would like to know attachment points and where the lifting position should be.

You should have this done by a yard that knows what it's doing.
If their good, they'll explain it to you.

A big wide strap with lotsa padding at the section that goes around the mast, balance point is kinda under the spreaders which are more than halfway up the mast extrusion (because of the length from the deck down to the keel step).  Don't forget the coin under the mast when you replace it!

I pull mine every year... the strap goes around the spreaders.  Several folks involved, one at the base to hold the spar down as it will be a tad top heavy, but fairly well balanced.

don't forget to unplug the lights & remove the deck hold-down hardware form the sail track
