Title: In-mast furling
Post by: ger_999 on April 09, 2008, 01:44:48 PM
Does anyone have the rig tensioning specs for an in-mast furler.
I have just purchased the boat and can't find any information about it.
I understand that the mast must remain straight to prevent problems with the furler.
Anyone have any information.

The in-mast furling manual is posted on the site: look under manuals. The only instruction in there is to tune with no pre-bend.

So what you need to do is tension evenly to probably about 15% of breaking strength on inners, outers and backstay. Check that the mast stays in column as you alternate tightening. Then take it out for a sail (with both sails up) in 15-20 knots and tighten up each side just until there is just no slack on the leeward side on each tack. Too tight is better than too slack. Once you have the setting then you can measure with a Loos guage so that you can check from time to time that it is still set right.
