Title: Interesting things that pop up in the ocean
Post by: Joe Kern on February 12, 2008, 04:09:20 PM
Probably not a big deal for the places where some of you sail, but this is not a usual site off of Cape Canaveral.  Needless to say VHF16 was quite busy with warnings about approaching too close.
This was this past weekend (75 degrees and 10 knots for those of you northerners).

I had a similar encounter in Norfolk Va 3yrs ago. Note the bow wave...it gets bigger as it gets closer!

Norfolk's a hoot. I once had the lucky experience to be entering the Chesapeake from offshore during a "changing of the guard" and we had 3 subs pop up either behind or in front of us. Big scramble for cameras, but the pic's didn't do the experience justice.
First reaction to the subs was, uh, oh, we really did something wrong!

If you did something wrong, you wouldn't be here writing about it!  :D  Consider it an escort saluting a sailor making a wise decision to own a Catalina 34. :thumb:
