Title: Anchor Windlass Just Stopped
Post by: John Cotterill on November 01, 2007, 03:09:22 PM
Hi

I have a 1993 C34 Mark 1 No 1257 (i think).  It has a VW800 Maxwell windlass.  It just stopped.

Didnt feel like it jammed, just like the power went off.  It still has power at the main breaker and I took the footswitch apart an it was worn but still made contact.

Is there another fuse in the line?  Anybody had any similar experiences??

How are your batteries?  I have no additional fuse in mine, but just wondered if you had checked voltage at the unit?

John : If you have power at the breaker what about at the foot switch and at the motor?
Can you manually turn the capstand?   Just a couple of items to check.

Ron

Went back out to the boat and the winch wont turn by hand.

managed to get the capstan off after a bit of effort but could not remove gypsey.

Clutch did eventually free but shaft would not budge.

Any ideas to free it up.

John

John : Next step? I'd call Maxwell customer service.  They may even suggest that you send it back to them for refurbishment.   :think
