Title: Rot on Engine Cover
Post by: leisterf on February 16, 2002, 02:24:31 PM
Where is the water coming from?  I discovered  that the aft starboard corner of the horizontal engine cover, the one under the upper ladder,  has rotted and more seriously the formica topped piece that runs from behind the engine cover, under the louvered vent into the aft cabin rotted back three inches!  This is the same board that is a shelf in the aft cabin.

This is the second time I have fixed the engine cover and that was just three years ago.  Where is the water coming from?

It could be draining from the hatch boards or from the bridge deck where the hatch boards fit.  However that "shelf" slopes aft.  There does not appear to be an drain holes to divert the water.

How is it getting to the engine cover, under the upper ladder and then seeping into that corner?

Anyone had this problem before?

Do you have a dodger?  Could be that so many of us have dodgers that water rarely gets to the teak.  Ron's idea is very good advice.
