Title: Wrapping\Insulating the Exhaust riser
Post by: Dionysus on February 17, 2002, 09:17:57 AM
I replaced my exhaust riser last season with black pipe like the original which lasted 14 years, and I wrapped the pipe with fiberglass cloth which was recommended by a Universal dealer.  The problem is that a burning type odor comes out of the engine area.  I think it's from the heat build up (melting?) of the fiberglass housing over the riser area (under companionway).  It tends to be much less noticeable with the engine cover off but this is a ridiculous solution.  I've read of many people replacing this part so I'm sure someone has either had the same experience, or knows how and what to wrap the pipe in.  I appreciate any help.

Thanks. CP

Title: Heat insulation

I recently bought a new Exhaust pipe from the CY with insulation and it does not smell. Suggest you give Dave Glass a call and ask him what they use. He's very helpful. Good luck... Dave Davis
