Title: Florida sailboat charter
Post by: Kyle Ewing on January 22, 2007, 03:25:56 PM
I'm planning a long weekend getaway to Miami or the northern keys in the middle of March and would like to stay aboard a sailboat, 32-36 feet (there will be 3-4 adults).  Can anyone recommend a rental/charter company?  It'll be 3-4 nights.

Try these guys: http://www.floridayacht.com/

I chartered a 43' Hunter a few years back from them in the Abacos and had a great experience.

We also chartered from Florida Yacht Charters a couple of years ago.  The boat was in good condition and we had no problems except that the battery bank was small, but we were able to deal with it.  Left from Miami beach and went down through Biscayne Bay.  It is thin water but well marked.  We also rented a Hunter.  Made me look harder at Catalina as up until then it had been a toss up.  This is a good way to try before you buy.

If you go down into the Keys bring your snorkel gear and bug repelant.

---------try Treasure Harbor(I think its in Islamorada). We chartered from them a few years ago and were quite pleased. If you want a funky beach house that comes with a funky 22 foot boat try the Key Liime Sailing Club in Key Largo. (we're there now).

Have fun,

Ken

Ken,

Thanks.  I stayed at Key Lime two years ago and loved it.  That was my first choice but they're sold out the dates I'll be there.  I'll look into Treasure Harbor.
