Title: Instrument housing pod
Post by: Paul Bosquet on January 16, 2005, 11:22:36 AM
I am in need of replacing my instruments. My choice are the Simrad IS12 instruments, combi (depth / speed) and a wind system.Similar in size as the Raymarine units. Will the new instruments fit the original housing pods or do I need  to get new rail mount swivel pods. I do not want  to have the instruments right in front of my face as do the new grab rail installed systems do. I find that they interfere with visibility in a seated position.

Paul,

Might I suggest you consider the new wireless systems like the TackTick.  With no wires mounting options are infinite and easily changed.  Just a thought....

I did look at Lay line but too bloody expensive. Simrad instruments @ $1186.00 versus $2300.00 for wireless.
Numbers speak for them-self !!!!!!

Paul : Why not pose that question to the maker of your old pods?   :?:

Paul,
You should be able to use your existing pods. The diameter of the pods is over 5" and the instruments are usually 4.5" max. Depth should not be a problem either. You may need to make up a new Plexiglas face plate.
