Title: Reefing
Post by: Ken on October 14, 2004, 07:27:26 PM
In the August 2004 issue of Mainsheet, an article by Tom McMahan provided a method for improving single line reefing on the Catalina 380. My son, Brian modified our 34 using the recommendations.  He used two Harken blocks with shackle and one 1" and one 3/4" rings.  It provided significant improvement.   Ken - Trident - 1300

My rigger suggested installing a winch on the boom to assist with reefing. Do you use the block/rings with a winch?

ROC,
For the article with pictures go to Catalina 38 Association.  Select technical article search, then browse by date and select the article under the July, 2004 date.

Paul,
On our boat, the reef line is brought to the cabin top through a clutch.  There is a winch on the cabin top that is used as a final set.
