Title: Tachometer Dip Switch Settings
Post by: Stu Jackson on June 24, 2004, 12:40:23 PM
This is a continuation from:

http://c34.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=329609511&f=829605811&m=936606927 (http://c34.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=329609511&f=829605811&m=936606927)

1.  A search on the main website shows Ron's Tech Notes references: (search on dip switch)

http://www.picosearch.com/cgi-bin/ts.pl (http://www.picosearch.com/cgi-bin/ts.pl)

NOTE: this link doesn't work directly.  If you do a search on the main site with "dip switch" you'll get to that URL)

2.  It leads to the Feb. 1999 article:

http://c34.org/mainsheet/pdf/1999_no1.pdf (http://c34.org/mainsheet/pdf/1999_no1.pdf)

The 1999 article also references the 1993 article by Ron.

Seems if you don't have the 14 pole tach you need to find out some more information about your alternator poles #s, pulley sizes, etc.

ONLY YOU know what's on your boat. I'm not sure there's anything more that can be said beyond what Ron already wrote back in 1999, and which he recommended.

Thanks to all of you for noting that you're using the search engines, and please keep  on posting your questions that remain unanswered.  There's always something new out there.

As a follow up to the Dip Switch question.

When I first encounterd this same issue and wished to adjust my tachometer I searched the site and found the articles referenced.  However, for whatever reason, the tach on my boat did not have the switch setting as described in these articles.   My question to Telex resulted in the article they faxed me which did apply.

Due to the differences in each boats construction, searching for and finding an answer is no guarantee that it will be the right answer.  So sometimes it still pays to post the question.  IMHO

It's always good to post a question.

The only point I was trying to make was that in Ron's article in the 1999 Mainsheet, it included information for who to call and their phone # if you DIDN'T have the 14 pole dip switch, and why.

Thanks for posting the more direct URL (although I don't get a response when I click on it).

Thanks again to all who contributed to this thread.

For those of you who would rather print out the information and do it in one trip on the weekend.

Try the following link for dip switch settings on the teleflex tachometers and a conversion chart that allows you to use the current dip switch setting in combination with the observed tach reading and the actual engine rpm.
