Title: Marelon thru hulls
Post by: Jim "SV Ohana" on May 31, 2004, 06:33:02 AM
looking for opinions, experience on this one.
While I don't have a problem with marelon valves, I do have a bit of an issue with they way they are installed on my boat. They all seam to be "in line ball valves" not the recommended flanged screwed to a backing plate type thru hulls.
I really don't want to snap one of these off, so I'm thinking of retro fitting the flanged type marelon valves, mainly for piece of mind.
Anyone had these concerns or done a refit with the recommended type valves????
thanks
Jim

Jim

I don't recall a problem.

Try these:

There was some discussion awhile back about them and Catalina responded with a long article posted in Mainsheet, I think in two parts.  Check your old Mainsheet magazines, about two years ago.

Personally, I have been satisfied with my valves.  Only one had a problem, the 1 1/2 inch head discharge, so I simply had it replaced.  It's an in line, too.

I would also try a Search on the main C34 website.  There was a post concerning Marelon a few years ago, but it may have been removed.
