Title: water tank gate valves
Post by: Gene Regan on May 16, 2004, 07:20:16 PM
Hello all,

Has anyone replace the fresh water tank gate valves and if so did you stay with the 1988 version plastic ones, are they still available? and if not what is best substitute?

Hi Gene -

One of mine was stripped out and I could never tell whether it was open or closed. I replaced both with ball valves so I know whether they are open or closed by just looking at them. I dont trust gate valves anyway. You can get ball valves at any marine discount house or hardware store. I recall that someone has replaced the valves and rerouted the hoses so the valves are in the bilge area - I tried a quick search but couldn't find it. Maybe RonStu can direct you to it.

Try Projects, Captn Al's home page reference, he did that.

Thaks to you both , will do it this week and will use the ball valves instead. Having them in the bilge area has advantages also, maybe I'll do that as well . Again thanks

I routed mine behind the door to the galley sink drain. you only have to go to one place to do two things.
