Title: Spartite
Post by: bjmansfield on January 23, 2004, 12:26:19 PM
Will be unstepping the mast (for the first time ever) in a few weeks.  Will have it stripped, repainted, install Garhaur masthead sheaves, all bulbs replaced, etc.

Am seriously considering using spartite when I restep the mast.  Questions:  is the small kit enough for a C34 mast??  and has anyone had any bad experiences with Spartite??

thanks
Jack

Jack,
I removed my mast for the first time last season and replaced it using the spartite system.  I bought the double kit and only used 1/2 of it.  I have one kit left that I can offer you at a greatly reduced price, complete with instructions and all necessary supplies.
May I recommend that you have the rigging X-RAYED while the mast is down.  It is a very inexpensive, non-destructive test compared to rig failure or rerigging.

Jack,
The small kit is about $90 at most discount suppliers.  I will sell the kit for $60 with shipping.  You can contact me at jentine@hotmail.com

Jack,

Spartite is great.  Just follow the directions carefully and lube it each time you step.  I unstep each year and it does take a bit of a pull from our boom truck crane before it pops out. Makes it much easier to tune your rig.

Ron:
Do you remember which Mainsheet has the article you mention.  I couldn't find any reference to it with a search.

thanks,
Jack

Jack

Try May 2001, Pulling a Keel Stepped Mast.

Because the site is so huge now, a search on mast would pull up lots of material.

What I did, as I have suggested before, is to cut and paste the Tech Notes Index into my word processor.

Search then becomes easier and avoids the website search where thousands of things come up in searches for mast, or any other one word issue.

Hope this is what you're looking for.

Thanks Stu..

I believe I will do the cut and paste in the future for searching, excellent idea.
