I couldn't find any pictures of a garhauer engine hoist on a MKII searching through the wiki. Can somebody please share their MKII boat with a garhauer hoist installed and any tips you feel like I should know before I tackle this project? I'm a bit nervous as it will be the first time I drill holes in my boat. I'm wanting to get a 9.9HP to hang off my stern rail mount. It says 8hp max, but I figure 8HP engines are basically the same weight as 9.9 so why not get the extra horses?
Not a Garhauer but it might give you some ideas. I will say that side was a bit more difficult to get to the underside since the refrigerator compressor is under there, it would have been much easier to do the port side. Other than that it wasn't hard to put on. My only issue was to get the hoist to sit mostly vertical, I had to put it down the scoop a little which made the pulley come out too low to be a straight shot to the starboard winch. I ended up with the block under the seat which leads it straight to the winch if my wife is helping or back to the dingy if I'm on my own. That may not be an issue with the Garhauer model.
That's a 6hp Mercury by the way, which I bought before the lift. I was hoping the 6 would be light enough to not need a hoist but not quite. Now that I have the hoist, I would have liked the 9.9hp. The 6 is a little whimpy.

Coral Wave came with a Garehauer engine hoist. We've never used it as we have an electric outboard for the dinghy, and it's light enough that the hoist isn't needed. I'll take a picture of the mounts when I'm at the boat later this week, should give you some idea.
The PO installed a Garhauer lift on Shamrock, works great. I'll try to find pictures but have had problems with loading pictures after an update, hate those. I believe he got the mounting idea from Mainsheet magazine circa 2003.
The mounting is simple, a 2-inch (approx) hole in the starboard stern seat and the ball mounted directly below that on the transom. To use, put the plain tube into the seat hole onto the ball then put the rest of the lift on that tube. It assembles easy and is stored in the cockpit locker.
Hope this helps, will be a while before the cover of off to take pictures.

Jim, is the ball mount for the hoist leveled or does it sit flush with the gentle slope of the transom? I'm at Honu now and it looks like that's the best option, but curious if I'd need to fabricate something there to make the ball mount level.
The Kato hoist does look good, but hard to justify over double the price!

The ball sits directly on the transom. The angle doesn't bother the function.

On our 1996 boat the aft seat doesn't extend far enough aft to pass the tube through so I used the Garhauer swivel bracket mounted to the push pit and the 2" ball bolted on the sloped transom. The mounting of the ball seemed a little wimpy so I needed up through bolting it with I think a ⅜" bolt. Our 9.9 Mercury is mounted on the rail with an Edson Mount. I didn't fully trust the pushpit to support the 85 pounder so I also added a 45 degree strut/brace from the vertical down to the starboard side step using ¾" stainless and Bimini's parts.

Any chance you have a picture of your setup? I figure the push pit holds my 175lbs up, but then again I'm not standing on it in rough seas...
This image is the best I have today. What does not show well is the simple bimini frame clamp-on attachment to the vertical member of the pushpit. The base fitting is through bolted on the step. On a previous boat, a 1980 C-30, I did something similar and broke the pushpit. My welder had a heck of a time welding that extremely thin tubing. 16 years later they did use better stainless tubing but I did not want to take the chance. That brace is also a great hand hold to reach for on the way up the ladder.

I had one (with the radar tower on my E32-200 and am installing just the hoist on my MKII.
I think Jim's (Shamrock) has the hole drilled through the starboard seat on the push pit. That is how I'm installing mine too.
I got to the boat today while it is getting some body work done in a heated shop. Very nice for a change. Attached are two images showing the mounts and the brace better than the previous shot. The aft seats on my 1996 hull may not extend as far aft as the 1998 version and in order to bypass the bimini, the post had to mount totally outside of the pushpit structure.
While it's a relatively balmy 30F outside, the cockpit is more like 75F. it sort of feels like summer in there.

Garhauer makes a short arm and long arm. I think the long arm is necessary to mount it thru a hole in the seat.

That makes me want the newer pushpit. If it wasn't for the pricy bimini Surround being too tight back there I would cut a new seat base of starboard with an Extension.
Thanks for all the advice, the install was easy except for getting the backing plate on. Some serious boat yoga to be able to get hands on it.
I am a bit concerned with how much the push pit flexes when the hoist is weighted tho.
Oh, and the 26" arm works perfect, places the hook directly above the engine mount.
Outboard being delivered Tuesday, so will see how well it works then.
