Title: Portlight Seals
Post by: marco.luske on November 23, 2024, 02:19:10 AM
Hi all.

I've just purchased a 2005 Catalina 34 MKII. Unfortunately day 1 on board coincided with a massive downpour and 6 of the portlights leaking at the bottom of the seal. The size is a SZ18 according to what is stamped on the glass but I can't seem to find what seal replacement kit that relates to. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Marco

Congratulations!

Shamrock's leaked the first season I had her.  I cleaned the seals well with a little alcohol then applied a very thin film of Superlube.  That was 20 seasons ago and haven't leaked since.  Now that's part of my spring maintenance.

I hope you enjoy your C34 as much as I enjoy Shamrock,
Jim

Marco,
Before you change the seals.  Try cleaning the area of the plastic that touches the gasket.  When mine used to leak it was because the dust caused it not to make a good seal with the gasket. Just a paper towel moistened with water did the trick
