I think you need 5/8" hose. Your Sherwood pump has 1/2" ports.

Main Message Board / Re: Lithium Install on a MkII
April 03, 2024, 02:30:21 PM
Keel, I did a LiFePo conversion the second season we had our Mk2. I have two Expion 100 Ah Gp27 batteries mounted on their triple battery mount tray, and an AGM starting battery mounted beside them. I installed a Victron Cerbo GX with a Touch 50, a 500 amp smart shunt, a Smart solar 100/30 MPPT solar controller, a Orion TR smart 12/12-30 DC/DC charger, and I use a Blue Smart 12/15 IP65 charger to top up either battery set when needed. The Expion batteries recommend a maximum charge current of 50 amps, but I never need more than the 15 amps provided by the 12/15. The batteries and shunt are installed under the seat in front of the sink, The DC/DC charger and Blue smart charger are under the sink with the charger plugged into an outlet that I installed when I removed the original charger. We have an 1800 watt inverter that came with the boat under the starboard seats, and a 230 watt solar panel mounted on our davit arch. The Cerbo, MPPT controller, breakers, and a Vesper AIS are mounted in the small cabinet forward of the chart table. By replacing the 6v batteries I have shed about 25 Kgs.

We sail our 97, Mk2 out of Sarnia Ontario. Would love to do a Lake Michigan cruise.

I went through this same exercise last season when I added a Vesper AIS, and antenna to our boat. AT that time Garmin who now own the Vesper name and product line told me that the Vesper antenna was sold out and was most likely being phased out. I purchased the equivalent Shakespeare 5215 AIS antenna and can attest to great performance with this antenna. A quick online search found the Vesper antenna out of stock at Garmin, and several retailers.

Raymond, last spring I replaced an old Raymarine system with new Raymarine gear, EV-100, Axiom+12,new wind, speed, & depth instrument with an i70 display. The old "compass" was installed under the v-berth,and the old instrument box for the wheel steering system was in the forward end of the cockpit locker. I installed the new instrument box, and heading sensor in the cockpit locker, and have a seatalkNG backbone that integrates an AIS unit and my VHF in the main cabin. I single hand on Lake Huron and have found the new gear to be reliable, and very customizable.

If they worked on the oil pressure alarm they must have removed the panel. Probably just a tach wire that detached when they had the panel open.

Andy, is your oil pan drain situated on the aft end of the engine? Mine drains the forward end leaving a few ounces in the pan. When I changed the oil last week I wondered if the pan could be rotated 180* and still leave enough room between the drain and the engine bed? Looks like you have a great view of the TO skyline!

If you have a dome light in the head you might be able to run your wires down through a cable seal into the void for that light and then fish the wires down to the waste bucket area, and then your panel.

Jim, cut mine last week after wrestling with our one piece mattress. I cut the piece that butts up against the engine access cover at the two foot mark and drilled an 1 1/4" hole for one finger removal. Now I can slide the mattress a few inches, and access the strainer, Racor, and shaft seal.

Direction of handle indicates path of flow. As pictured, flow is through the horizontal hoses, overboard. If handle is turned 90* flow will be through the white horizontal hose down through the vertical hose to the holding tank

I don't see a handle on the through hull. If you don't have a valve to close this through hull you have a few things to worry about.

On our 97 34Mk2 there is a pump under the galley sink that drains the shower. There is a switch for the pump located above the toilet.

Main Message Board / Re: Mystery coolant leak
June 07, 2023, 06:33:55 AM
I experienced a small, intermittent coolant leak last season. It was traced to the small brass hose bib at the coolant caps' neck. This fitting is soldered to the neck, and due to 20+ years of vibration the soldered joint leaked. The hose attached to this bib runs up to the coolant recovery tank which is in our cockpit locker.

I recently upgraded my Raymarine instruments and the cutouts for the old instruments didn't work for the new instruments on our NavPod. I had Abbott boats make a new face plate out of 1/4" King Starboard, and the new instruments look great. I'll post a picture of the new set up when I get back to the boat. I agree with you on the NavPod quirks. Beware of over tightening the bolts as I had one pull through the fiberglass. A Starboard patch would be a quick and easy way to cover the holes.

PB, to clarify my previous post. If you travel to the US often by boat, plane, train or car NEXUS does make entry into the US much easier. Since our boats are over 30 feet we do need a crossing fee sticker available on the DTOPS website. If you are entering the US more than once per year by boat the $32.62 USD sticker allows unlimited entries. If you don't have a sticker you can be charged $32.62 each time you enter the US. The process is simple and I received this seasons sticker within two weeks of ordering. If your boat is licensed/registered in Ontario you will have no problems with US Customs. My boat's number is called a Coast Guard Number and a Registration number on my decal receipt. My son in law works for Canada Customs and they are in a situation where due to retirement, and attrition you will most likely deal with someone fresh out of training who really doesn't understand all of the rules and regs. Download ArriveCan, & CBP ROAM apps. on your phone and you will have no issues entering the US, and returning to Canada.
