Purchasing a 92 Catalina 34

I am looking at a 92 catalina. The boat is located in LA, California. I am trying to determine price. Everything works, it has the 4 banger universal w/1500 hours, and all basic/standard sailing equipment. It is very very clean. The interior is wonderful. The cushions have been redone and it has matresses w/fitted bedding in the berths.  She has had a few upgrades like a rigid vang, new lines, lazy jacks and so on. The dodger and canvas are in good shape.

What do you guys think from this basic description???

Prices vary a bit by location.  Your best bet is to check the various yachts for sale web sites like www.yachtworld.com and check the www.buc.com, they are the "blue book" for resale.  Buc used to be free, heard they were charging for their services.  If your buying from a broker, he should be able to tell you what the BUC is.  If from an individual, a local broker may tell you.  Word of caution, many times the boats sell for more than the BUC price.  Sounds like a good clean boat, many standard upgrades, the mattresses are a nice touch.

When we spent over a year looking for our boat, we saw a wide variety of boats (ALL C34s) in (sometimes dismaying and) different conditions.

When we saw the boat we bought, all we did was look at each other and say "This is the ONE!"

Don't know how anyone else, without seeing it, and knowing your likes, tastes, etc., can answer your question.

We spent enough time knowing about prices before we went shopping.  Negotiated some with the PO so neither of us would feel any remorse.

As Ken said, there are lots of sources for finding out the basic cost, but much of it has to do with locales, availability, equipment, condition, and, with C34s, popularity.

Sometimes price matters less than the condition of the boat and location.  After researching  a number of models we narrowed the search.  What's available, where, price, etc.  Looked at a 95 Catalina 36. Then d :) :)rove several hundred miles hoping to see the 97 Catalina 34.  It had sold Friday but with the contingency that the trade surveyed out.   On Monday morning they got word the trade was a no go.  When we stepped aboard we knew this was what we wanted.  We paid on the high side but the boat was in pristine condition.  We got a few addons like starter batter and Y valve and paid the asking price.  If you want it, it feels right and you know it's in the park-GO FOR IT!
