Third Battery?

Hi - we are the new owners of a 1988 Catalina 34  !   Many projects underway based on all the great information I've read here!
Question:
We found the 2 batteries underneath the galley cushions but also found a third battery in the aft cabin rear bulkhead?  port side/aft.

We are not sure how/what it is hooked into, thoughts?

Hey CMNQ - congratulations 

Dangerous question -- one NEVER knows what a PO did to what, and what is hooked to what.  Even though it may appear to be "normal" or "typical" -- you will soon find that those two words don't appear in boat manufacturers' or quite often a previou owners' vocabulary!!!  LOL   

Starting battery - could be cabled direct on a separate switch or thru the selector or .....  there's many sparrow's nests of wiring jobs out there.   Suggest first you trace put the cabling and which each is connected to (make a simple sketch) so you become familiar -- then it will help diagnose the whole system w/ help here, and help with improvements and upgrades to electrical and other.

Was it a broker or private sale?  Did they walk you thru all the systems aboard?

It was a broker sale from a powerboat marina.  We knew more about the boat than the non-sailor that sold it.  It was inspected and we are working through that list of to do's.  But while pulling new exhaust hose we noticed the 3rd battery.   
That's a good idea to map/trace the wiring. 
The poor sailboat was not "used" properly and the sails were rolled backwards....sigh.
She is in a much better place now, and will be loved back to life!
We splash next Wednesday, lots to do!

Oh, and make sure every time you "run across" a pc of equipment - record the mfgr, part number, model number, etc -- anything you can get off it.  You'll need it "some day"!! (and oftentimes much ends up being non "standard" -- like simple things -- nav lights, anchor light, pumps, etc.) - take many/and file away pics of them so you don't need to run to the boat to get one so we know what you're talking about (help us to help you) when a question comes up here.
