Before you start running wires, or buying lamp oil, pick up one of those cheap stick on LED lights.  Also buy some red cellophane.  Try various aft locations and see which spot works best for you.  We have found the LED lights that have a magnetic mount that sticks to a surface a great boon to after-dark rousting about in the cabin.  They act like small cabin lights when mounted and flashlights when dismounted.  One small note: The glue that comes with the mounting pad does not last more than 24 hours in the damp Florida air.  I used DAP contact cement to solve that problem.

To save work (worst part of any boat job is running wires or hose) could try a couple of battery lanterns or headlamps.  I find both to be handy on Shamrock.  I've been happy buying from Dorcy.  try

Just a suggestion.

Steve : If you cannot change the white LED to a red LED, then go to an auto store and buy a small cheap red replacement lens and glue it on to cover the white LED.   A thought
