rigging headsailhalyard correctley

Just got home from offshore and checked on the set up of the headsail (jib) , a friend rigged it for me while i have been away. It (halyard ) is run through the fiddle block like i remembered but it is terminated on the winch on the port side and it is extemely tight ,but the sail is up and no loose foot , should the fiddle block also have a cleat on it as a unit ????  Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

Kevin : I don't think you mean a fiddle block?

Here is the routing for the jib/headsail halyard on your 1988 C34 :
The 3/8" line attaches to the head of the sail, then up thru the port forward sheave at the top of the mast, down the mast coming out an exit on the port side, then to a block attached to the base of the mast, then to the port side turning blocks attached to the port deck, then thru the fairlead on the underside of the traveler bar and finally thru the line stopper between the head hatch and the companion way.

There is a good diagram of how the halyards and sheets are run in the owners manual.  If you don't have a paper copy it is on the wiki under manuals.
