Hi Everyone,

It is time to dive under Esprit du Vent to check on the condition of the prop shaft zinc.  I have looked in the owner's manual and searched on line and could not determine what size zinc the shaft of the 1986 Catalina 34 uses.  I am sure it is in the Forum somewhere, but with search down, I cannot find it.  I bought three sizes today at West Marine ( 1 1/4, 1 1/8, and 1 ) to be sure.  Since I cannot hold my breath too long I sure would like to use the right one the first time.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Hi Bob,

It should be 1". Renew mine every year and that is what I have used. The boat has always had two zincs and at end of season both are well used up. (1986 vintage)....good luck with the dive!

Thanks Gary.  We will dive with the 1" first.  Two zincs in a short Maine summer.  I will report back on what my one zinc looks like after 6 months.

Bob : Yes, the shaft Zn is 1".

I've passed this on many times, but get a shaft Zn with the BB inside to have a better contact with the shaft.

Hi Everyone,

I am happy to report that the zinc still is in pretty good shape and does not need to be replaced at this time.  We will check it again in August.  We cleaned the bottom and all is well on that topic.  We did discover an issue with the fitting where the rudder post goes into the hull.  See new forum topic called "Rudder post hull interface ring."

Thanks,

Bob
