I keep my 800 watt 2cycle generator in the anchor locker (when I think I'm going to need it) accompanied by a non DOT fuel container.  I am not concerned in the least with "blowing up" from this or from my propane system, nor from all the gun powder I keep on board...

and you fellows are not seriously comparing a home with a boat are you?

if my garage burst into flames I most likely walk outside and watch the house burn down.  On a boat catching fire is a bit more complicated

Sorry,  didn't mean to be holier than thou.   This is just a thread about storing gasoline in a living space with ignition sources.   So if people talk about it and think about whether their vent caps are tight or their fuel lines secure, or how their boat or generator is constructed, I think that is a good thing.   

A couple of weeks ago I was using my gas powered weedeater (which I actually do keep out in the shed with the lawnmower and the gasoline - call me paranoid) and I smelled a heavy gas smell.   I shut it off.   The fuel line had come disconnected from the tank there were no clamps of any kind.  My shorts were soaked in gasoline as was the hot muffler on the weedeater.   I am not saying it was built in the same factory as a Honda generator, but it was probably in the next city.   I know if I put a gasoline genset in the aft locker I would check the gas cap and whatever connections come out of the tank.   

By the way, I also keep in an axe in my aft cabin, but that's probably a different thread :D

My understanding is that the axe was standard equipment on the first few boats because of the Perko door hardware that kept jamming - only way to get out of the aft cabin if you were singlehanding.  After hull #69 they made it an option, although they didn't get around to adding the full sized hatch until the Mark II boats (around hull #1280+).   :D
