Hello and happy holidays from New Jersey

Is ther any one that has any experience on location of ac system  under nav station, I've got 88 c34 # 713 and am contemplating under nav install and would appreciate any imput. Looking at mermaid system 16000 btu. Going ther due to present battery locations in other prime areas.

Thank you all and Merry Xmas

I don 't know where your batteries are located but I have the same mermaid unit and it is located under v-berth.  Also, FYI, I have a Home Depot Flotec condensation pump attached to unit that routes the condensation water into the anchor locker drain line.  Other folks recapture this water for other uses. Keeps the excess water out of the bilge.

4 golf cart, and one frt of starboard water tank, and one in dinette area adjacent to v berth bulk head along with refrige unit which this battery is dedicated to.Wondered about v berth location  but was concerned about 68 lbs under berth and air travel fron there to 1/4 berth area. Hows yours doing ???

I have simular setup - Battery under dinette next to v-berth for refrig unit, others under dinette forward of sink.  The unit is quiet, air intake below v-berth drawer, one outlet into v-berth via hanging locker, large outlet under dinette for cabin.  No duct run to aft berth but boat is really warm or cool (seasons).  Weight does not matter.  Unit with Flotec pump all in v-berth.  Boat still sits trim to aft with water tanks 3/4 full and full fuel.  I would say bow sets about 3 inches high, and I have Hood furling, Fortress anchor with 25 feet 3/4" chane and 180" 3/4 rode, plus secondary anchor and 200" 5/8" rode.  So all that to say, 68 pounds ain't going to make any difference.

Dear JIm ,
this sounds much better than under nav station,
and there's much more room under v berth, i thank you for your input and will be ordering unit this week, can you possibly tell me which discharge option for air you have, top, side or rear?.
thanks again and Merry Xmas

The PO installed the unit and I am not sure my older model had the same discharge options.  The original purchase order indicates "RH" for right hand.  Looking at the unit in the V-berth, the cooling coils ("radiator") are facing me and the discharge is on the right (starboard) side.  The output duct runs into the bottom of the hanging locker and the 6" / 4" splitter is located in the locker with the v-berth feed going up and out into the v-berth at top side of locker.  The 6" duct goes through bulhead under dinette and vents under table.  That is best I can recall.  I don't say this is the best design (using space in locker) but it was there when I bought the boat.

When you are not on the boat, you can't remember anything.  If I get to boat this week, I can take photos and send to your email address if you wish.  Just let me know the address.

we have the mermaid 16000 unit that was on hull number 1345 when we bought it.  placed  in the dinette just aft of the bulkhead.  intake is there under the table, ducting through the starboard locker in the forward cabin.  thinking about adding smaller duct add on to the aft cabin.  seems to work OK.  removed the unit and sent away for servicing.  a tight fit when I put it back in, but do-able from a non mechanics standpoint.

Reposted from an earlier thread...

I installed a single 16,500 BTU unit from Mermaid. It is under the V-berth with the output split into a 6" and a 4" duct. The 6" is routed through the stbd. hanging locker in the forward cabin to a 4x8 vent in the main cabin forward bulkhead and a 4" round vent in the forward cabin. The 4" duct is routed down the port side of the boat, passing between the top of the holding tank and the hull. It feeds 4" round vents above the chart table, in the head, and in the aft cabin. I replaced the drawer under the V-berth with a return air louver made to fit the existing opening. I mounted it on hinges to give easy access to the storage area under the V-birth.

Cooling has been excellent all over the boat. I have the gray nonskid decks which really heats up here in Southwest Florida. A canvas cover on the forward hatch really helps out, too.

I installed a split system with 16,000 BTU for the main cabin (located in hanging locker in V berth) and a 4,000 BTU unit for the aft cabin (located in hanging locer in aft cabin).  The compressor with thru hull is located on the port side of the stern locker)  Works great for the Houston climate.  Bill Russell C34 #952 89'
