I purchased a battery temp sensor to go with my recently installed xantrex truecharge2 20a.  Looks like it's intended for threaded battery terminals.  I have the lead posts and adaptors on my batteries.  Should I drill and tap a post to mount the sensor directly to the post?  Or, should I just install it to the adaptor?

CAREFULLY mount it under to the clamping nut on the NEG terminal. Moving it too far away on eh lead clamping adapters can throw off the accuracy. When buying batteries it is best to try and choose batteries with a threaded post.. :? Also mount the temp sensor to the battery with the most probability of getting the warmest.. DO NOT mount it on the POS post....

Jim : You can go to an auto parts store or Batteries Plus and get a lug connecter that has a threaded wing nut on it.

Then put it on the negative lug for the temp reading wire to the charger.
