Lewmar portlight leaks

I recently replaced the gaskets on my portlights, and it seems that several are still leaking around the latches.  

My Bomar overhead hatch latches were also leaking in the same manner, but I disassembled these to replace the o-ring.  FYI this o-ring is a common size, #116, 15/16 OD x 3/4 ID x 3/32 width.

Has anyone here figured out how to disassemble the Lewmar latch?  There appears to be a black plastic plug on the inside, can this be pried or drilled out?  Is there then a screw that can be unfastened to get to the o-ring?

A related trouble is that the water has bleached or stained the teak drip molding just under the portlight.  What product would restore the reddish hue on these moldings?

I had the same problem some years ago and solved it by installing worm screws into tapped holes near the latches.  The holes are metric so you'll need to go to a fairly specialised store.  Seal them with a bit of silicon on the treads before installation.

The problem seemed to be leakage into the hollow frame via the black joints.  My understanding is that the frames can't be dismantled.

I have to assume you've already replaced the "O" rings under the knobs or have at least tightened the screws to pull the "O" rings onto the plexiglass.  The screws can be reached by easing out the plastic plugs.  If you're careful you won't damage the plugs and they can be reinstalled.

Has anyone replaced the flimsy plastic interior portlight trim with something more substantial, or a more secure way to attach them -  Mine keep falling off!

Drill four small pilot holes through the plastic trim and into the aluminum trim then simply screw in an appropriate (small) screw. Be carefull not to drill to far or use a screw that is too long.

Instead of drilling holes, how about using window putty.  This is the stuff that comes on a roll, rolled up like a piece of 1/8" rope, gray in color.  Home Depot sells it.  It stays pliable in all temps and stays very sticky.  It should keep the trim in place while allowing easy removal.

FYI the o-ring seal on the Lewmar portlight latch is a metric size, 12mm inside diameter x 2mm cross section diameter.  Available through McMaster Carr, p/n 9262K176, $7.70 for 50.

I have 38 left over.  I'd be happy to send a set of seals to the first three list members who respond.
